Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

In 2009 the federal government provided more than $1 billion over five years for a new Southern Ontario development agency—the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The agency's programs support economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification with contributions to communities, businesses and non-profit organizations. Its goal is to help workers, communities and businesses in Southern Ontario to position themselves to take advantage of opportunities as economic growth recovers in Canada and around the world.

As FedDev Ontario moves forward, their focus will be on creating a leading-edge manufacturing sector; supporting innovation and commercialization, and sustaining community economic development activities.

FedDev Ontario provides support for the 37 CFDCs in rural Eastern and Southern Ontario and oversees the delivery of programs such as the Southern Ontario Development Program and the Community Adjustment Fund.
