BIA-Haliburton

The Haliburton BIA (Business Improvement Area) was formed in 1988. A BIA is a geographic area in a municipality and is created by a municipality under provincial legislation. A BIA allows local business people and property owners to join together and, with the support of the municipality, organize, finance and carry out physical improvement and promote economic development in their district.  In Haliburton our BIA includes the downtown area of the village (York Street, Highlands Street from Cedar to Pine and Maple Ave from Mountain Street to the Drag River). The Municipality collects a levy from each of the property owner in the Business Improvement Area and these funds are made available to the management board of the Haliburton BIA to undertake activities which promote and enhance the downtown of the village.

Over the years the BIA has undertaken projects and worked with community partners on the following initiatives:

  • Built form guidelines
  • Façade improvement program
  • Street signs
  • Seasonal decorations and lights
  • Banners,
  • Hanging flowers and Maintenance
  • Benches
  • Flower boxes
  • Receptacles for garbage and recycling
  • Santa Claus parade
  • Fall Festival
  • Midnight Madness (in collaboration with the Haliburton Echo)
