Harmonized Sales Tax
The Harmonized Sales Tax is now effective as of July 1st, 2010.
This change merges the previous 5% GST with the 8% PST to make the 13% HST.
How does the change to HST effect my business??
If your business was already registered for GST there is no further registration required. If you were not required to register for GST, than your business is not required to register for HST. Accounting, billing and invoicing systems, cash registers and point of sale systes, including web interfaces and automatic payments should all be modified to switch to HST and remove RST (Retail Sales Tax). To match the transitional rules implemented with the HST change, your budgets should remove the 8% RST cost from purchases after July 1st, 2010.
