Minden Riverwalk

Riverwalk Map

The Friends of Minden Hills received Community Capacity funding for the Riverwalk project.

Friends of Minden Hills was formed to promote and support the revitalization of Minden Hills, to create positive programs that will improve the business climate and quality of Minden experience for permanent and seasonal residents, businesses and visitors, and to work with partners to achieve the revitalization of the Minden Community.  The goal of the Minden Riverwalk project was to create a multi-faceted attraction that would draw people into Minden as a destination to increase business and improve the quality of the Minden experience.

To date a pathway along both sides of the Gull River has been paved and surfaced to withstand flooding and is handicapped accessible. A pedestrian foot bridge was installed to make the riverwalk a loop trail with connections to the Township Park, cultural centre, community centre/arena via a boardwalk trail and pathways through municipally owned wetlands.  A plaza for riverside events has been established to host public events and information kiosks are installed with a visual map of the project along with sculptures depicting historical awareness about the history of the County. Other work includes tree planting and naturalizing the shoreline.

The Minden Riverwalk has become a major tourist destination, has increased ongoing traffic bringing the visitors to the downtown area of the village of Minden.  Community organizations host public and musical events along the rivers edge, weekly through the summer months, creating awareness and promoting the creativity of the local residents within the County.
