Board of Directors

Haliburton CDC is governed by board of 15 directors recruited from the local community. The directors bring knowledge and expertise from a wide range of business and not-for-profit sectors and are representatives of the geographic regions of Haliburton County. Directors are actively engaged in the governance of the organization, making decisions about loans and funding, and developing new initiatives through their work on a variety of committees.

 

Andrew Hodgson 
After a successful 10-year career in political organization at the highest levels of government, Andrew decided to return to his hometown several years ago to pursue a career in real estate. His extensive experience travelling throughout Ontario and across Canada has provided him with a greater appreciation of the Haliburton Highlands. Andrew grew up in Haliburton and as a member of the fourth generation of his family to live in the Highlands he has acquired a vast knowledge of the history, lakes and properties in the county. Andrew’s roots have also provided him with a strong connection and dedication to his community. In December 2009, Andrew and his wife Anne purchased Century 21 Granite Realty Ltd. He volunteers his time with several local organizations that contribute to the vitality of the county which include the Haliburton Rotary Club, the Haliburton County Development Corporation, and the Board of Governors for Fleming College.
Andrew joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2008.

 Rick Ashall

Rick Ashall ~ Investment Committee Chair
Rick Ashall is the owner of a small consulting business specializing in the strategic planning and delivery of technology for clients within the financial service's industry. After graduating from the University of Waterloo, Rick spent several years in consulting before taking on senior executive positions at London Life and Manulife Financial. Rick and his wife have cottaged in Haliburton for many years before choosing to retire in the County.
Rick joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2009 and is Chair of the Investment Committee and serves on the Executive Committee.

 Marg Risk

Margaret Risk 
Marg moved to Haliburton in 2000 on her retirement as Executive Director of the College of Nurses of Ontario. In that role, she worked closely with government and other health professions on legislative and policy initiatives reflective of a growing multidisciplinary environment for health service delivery at the provincial, national and international levels. She is a registered nurse with a Master’s of Science and Nursing (MScN) from the University of Toronto and has extensive experience in community health nursing practice, administration, education, and policy. She has been an independent consultant since 2000 working with the Ontario and federal governments, and organizations in Canada and the United States, on projects related to health policy and a diversity of health professional issues and practice. Prior to joining the HCDC Board she served for 9 years on the HHHS Board, and the last two as Chair. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Central East Local Health Integration Network (CE LHIN).
Margaret joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2010 and serves on the Executive, Investment and Eastern Ontario Development Program Committees

 George Schmidt

George Schmid ~ Secretary/Treasurer
George has been a consultant since 1999, and has 26 years experience successfully assisting individuals with social, employment and self employment related issues.  George is a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (R.R.P.) and a Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Association Member.  He has been President of the Haliburton Soap Factory Inc. since 1998, the proprietor of the Beaconbrook Motor Hotel in Haliburton for ten years, and the proprietor of Harvest Dining Lounge in Haliburton for seven years. George moved to Haliburton in 1979, married his business partner Elaine, and have one son, Lane. 
George joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2009 and serves on the Executive Committee and the Investment Committee and is Chair of the Haliburton Creative Business Incubator Committee.

 Peter Fredricks

Peter Fredricks ~ Chair
Peter is a semi-retired marketing strategist, advertising professional and entrepreneur with over 35 year of experience. For many years Peter has committed himself to volunteer organizations and contributes to the community on an ongoing basis. Peter is hoping that his efforts will help to improve both Haliburton County and HCDC. Peter has been a part of this community for many years. He was introduced to Haliburton County by his wife whose family have been living in the area for over 40 years. 
He presently volunteers his services to the local government as a municipal advisor to council appointed committees. 
Peter joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2012.  He is Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Committees and serves on the Investment Committee.

 

 Brian Nash

Brian Nash
Brian has over twenty-five (25) years of experience in business ownership and management which includes specific expertise in new venture creation, project management, marketing, and communication. His team focused and collaborative approach helped establish sound partnerships and relationships within the community and work teams. 
His strong commitment to Haliburton County is best seen through his active involvement in the Rotary Club, Haliburton County Development Corporation, Environment Green Energy Committee of Dysart et al, Abbey Gardens, and past work with Harvest Haliburton. 
Brian joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2012 and serves on the Investment and Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) Committees.

 Dale Bull

Dale Bull
With over 15 years of finance experience; lending, investing and small business, Dale is a seasoned Mortgage Specialist with TD Canada Trust. She works from her home office offering her clients the flexibility of consultations in their own homes or offices outside of regular banking hours including nights and weekends. Prior to this, Dale diverted from her career in finance for 11 years to pursue her love for hospitality as she took on the role of General Manager & Director of Sales/Marketing for one of this area’s largest resorts – The Wigamog Inn Resort. In the middle of her tenure there, Dale and her husband purchased and operated the Haliburton Highlands Golf Course which they sold in 2007. 
She enjoys giving back to her community and has held many volunteer positions including the Healthy Snack and Breakfast Programs in our public schools, Sirch’s Community Kitchen Program as well as heading up Sirch’s Hike for Hospice these past 2 years as Chair. 
Dale joined the HCDC Board of Directors in 2013 and serves on the Investment Committee.

 Derrell Stamp

Derrell Stamp
Derrell is a former real estate business broker/owner and real estate developer and is currently the owner of commercial properties in the area. His current volunteer experience includes the "Food for Kids" program in the schools.  In the past he has served as a Director and President of the Muskoka Haliburton Realtor Association and as a Director of "Community Care Haliburton", an association mandated with the delivery of health care initiative to the senior population of Haliburton County. 
Derrell joined the Board of Directors in 2013 and serves on the Investment Committee.

 Peter Smith

Peter Smith
Peter is an Information Technology and Telecommunication Manager working remotely from Haliburton serving clients across Canada.  He is a published technical writer and has spent some time teaching College courses in network and system configuration.  In addition to serving on the Board for the Haliburton County Development Corporation, Peter volunteers as a Board member a number of organizations in Haliburton including Food 4 Kids and recently on the Special Education Advisory Board of the Trillium Lakelands District School Board.  At HCDC, Peter sits on the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP), Haliburton Creative Business Incubator (HCBI), Executive and Investment Committees.

 Barb Bolin

Barb Bolin
Barb retired as Principal of Sir Sandford Fleming's Haliburton Campus (Haliburton School of The Arts) after a 36 year career during which the campus developed a strong reputation for Arts Education Nationally as well as serving education and training needs of the Haliburton Community.
In addition to her career in post-secondary education she has been deeply involved with her community through volunteer work with the Arts, Environment, Tourism and Economic Development.
She has been on the boards of the Haliburton Sculpture Forest, The Arts Council ~Haliburton Highlands, Haliburton Highlands Stewardship Council, The Rails End Gallery, The Forest Festival, Ontario Crafts Council, Abbey Gardens plus many Municipal and County committees dealing with Tourism and Economic Development.
During Barb's long tenure with the Haliburton County Development Committee she has had the privilege of serving on many committees and as Board Chair.

 Deborah MacLean

 Deborah MacLean
Deborah retired full time to the Haliburton County in September 2014 having spent almost 50 years as a seasonal resident on Gull Lake. Her career involved over 25 years in the software industry in various executive positions responsible for Sales and Marketing, Channel Distribution, Education and Business Alliances and as an entrepreneur.  Deborah has volunteered her time in a learn-to-read program at Archie Stouffer Public School and is on the Board of Directors with the Haliburton Easy Ryder's Cycling Club. Deborah joined the Haliburton County Development Corporation in February 2015 and sits on the Investment Committee.

 Kevin Shea

Kevin Shea
Kevin was born in Montreal, grew up in Los Angles and then settled with his family in Toronto. Throughout his career he has continued to be active in numerous broadcast and new media ventures in Canada, the United States and Ireland.  For the past 30 years he has served as President and CEO of the leading television and broadcast companies including, YTV Canada, The Global Television Network, Bell Globe Media and Sirius Satellite Radio Canada.   Kevin has received numerous industry awards.  A seasonal resident of Haliburton for many years, recently Kevin has taken up full time residence in Haliburton.  Kevin joined the Haliburton County Development Corporation Board of Directors in 2015.  At HCDC Kevin serves on the Investment Committee.

 

Patrick Kennedy
Pat Kennedy is a lifelong resident of Haliburton County, having grown up, gone to school, worked and raised his family there.  He has operated a business in Haliburton and served for many years as a Paramedic in the County.  Pat recently retired from his position as Director of the Department of Emergency Services for the County of Haliburton.  In addition to Pat’s dedication to Emergency services he is also an avid outdoorsman and has served on a number of advisory boards and commissions involved in management of Fish and Wildlife, locally, provincially and nationally.  Pat joined Haliburton County Development Corporation as a board member in 2015 and currently serves on the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) committee.
